DDC Handbook

Mission Statement

Derby Dance Company will strive to promote a positive dance environment for any individual who is looking to pursue a professional dance career, stay fit, work on their self-confidence, make new friends, or just have fun.

Student Code of Conduct

Each student is a member of a cooperative team of learners and performs. They agree to:

  • Exhibit respect towards others. Bullying, inappropriate language, exclusionary behavior, or disrespect towards peers or staff will not be tolerated.
  • Responsibly conduct themselves.
  • Obey all studio rules, including safety rules.
  • Arrive ready for class and on time.
  • Adhere to the dress code as provided by each dance teacher.

Parent Expectations

Without the support of parents, the studio would not be possible. We ask that you:

  • Lift and support ALL our children. Teach your child to be happy for others and to give a hand to those who may be behind.
  • Ensure that your child attends class regularly. We understand that everyone gets sick and has important occasions that will cause students to miss class once in a while. We ask that you give as much notice as possible
  • Make sure your child arrives at least 5 minutes early to class ready to dance.
  • Pick your child up on time.
  • Communicate any questions or concerns. Generally, most concerns should be addressed directly with your child's dance instructor. If the instructor feels it is an issue that needs the studio owner's guidance they will direct you to us.
  • Pay registration, tuition, costume fees, and recital fees on time

Studio Responsibilities

We want to fulfill our mission. We will:

  • Create a positive environment that allows all dancers to meet their personal goals.
  • Communicate with parents and students. We will provide a monthly newsletter and calendar. We will also send emails through our parent portal with all important information.

Registration

Registration for new students can be done by filling out the Enrollment Form found here. An account will be made for you in the Parent Portal with log-in instructions where students can be enrolled in classes.

Each new student will accrue a $25 ($30 for family) enrollment fee at the time of registration. Each returning student will accrue a $10 ($15 for family) re-enrollment fee at the beginning of the Fall season.

Tuition

You can find the Tuition schedule by clicking here.

The first month’s tuition plus the registration fee is due at the time of enrollment. Tuition will be due on the 10th of each month thereafter. Any tuition not paid before the 11th of the month will be assessed a $15 late fee.

If two late fees are assessed without any payment made, it could result in the un-enrollment of the student.

Attendance

It is very important to be consistent in your class attendance, especially as we get closer to recitals. Email or call us as soon as possible if your student is going to miss class for any reason. Tuition will not be discounted due to missed classes.

this date will still be subject to the following month’s tuition payment. All withdrawal notifications

must be sent by email.

Class Cancellations

DDC may cancel a class due to inclement weather. We will send out an email and update our

studio’s Facebook page. Check both outlets for the fastest and most accurate information. Currently, the canceled classes are not able to be rescheduled and will not be refunded, but students are allowed to make up these classes within one month in the same or lower-level classes of the same genre.

Lobby Expectations

Be considerate of other customers as well as our students while in the lobby areas of the studio.

Just as you can hear some of the instructions coming from inside the studio, dancers and

instructors inside the studio can hear loud noises from the lobby. Siblings of students must be

supervised at all times within the walls of Derby Dance Company. There should be no running,

yelling, or playing with/on gymnastic mats, water fountains, vending machines, or merchandise in

the lobby.

Student Evaluations & Level Information

Staff and teachers at DDC reserve the right to place students at the appropriate level. Students

age 3 and up may be placed in levels based on technical ability and maturity, and not necessarily their age.

Teachers are more than happy to provide additional feedback via email and help students develop

and succeed in their dance goals.

Recital Information

Derby Dance Company will hold its annual dance recitals at a school auditorium.

Recital season is incredibly busy and we dedicate many hours to putting on an incredible and

unforgettable performance for your family and your dancers to remember for years to come.

Please make sure to check your e-mail and/or Parent Portal regularly for any important recital information.

Recital Fees

We want your dancer’s day to be as special as possible with a professional performing experience. A recital fee of $25 for each student will be billed along with tuition and any other account balance on April 1st. This fee covers the rental of the auditorium for rehearsal and performances, lighting and sound help, and a T-shirt for each student. Each dancer will receive two complimentary parent tickets. Additional tickets can be purchased for $10 each. Recital fees are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Costume fees are $75 for Combo and Junior classes and $85 for Pre-Teen and Senior classes. These will be billed with March's tuition and will be due by the 10th of March.

DDC Competitive Team

Each year, DDC will hold Competitive Team auditions. Dates will be announced on social media, as well as in our newsletter. Auditions are open to any dancer interested in competitive dance. Competitive Team fees are an extra expense and do not replace any expenses already established. More information regarding the DDC Competitive Team can be found here.
